Continual Professional Development (CPD)

A core objective of Music4U is to provide Continual Professional Development opportunities for local musicians in order to grow the local skills base, establish and promote best practice and develop a network of providers and opportunities.

Phil Mullens leads the 2005 Community Musicians for Practioners Course In 2004 and 2005, Music4U ran the Community Music for Practitioners Course with the aim of providing tailor-made training for community musicians, enabling them to work more effectively in the region.

This groundbreaking course was aimed at local experienced musicians, youth and play workers with music
Phil Mullens leads the 2005 Community Musicians for Practioners Course skills who wished to acquire new skills
and expand existing skills with the
intentions of increasing opportunities
for work.

The course was accredited through the University of Hull's Centre for Lifelong Learning as a University Foundation Award and was run by skilled community musician, Phil Mullen
who teaches at Goldsmith’s College in
London.

The course was successful in both years, with twenty graduates who are now in great demand in the region as Qualified Trainers.

There are no plans to run the course again due to the emergence of HumberSound and MusicLeader in the region. Anyone wishing to pursue a career in community music in the region is advised to contact these organisations for further support and information.

HumberSound

An outcome of the Community Music for Practitioners Course has been the formation of HumberSound by the graduates.

HumberSound aims to contribute to the development of vibrant and accessible music making activities within the Humber region. Their objectives are to develop and co-ordinate networking opportunities and continual professional development to support community musicians in the region. They aim to devise, develop and deliver projects, to provide quality help, advice, support and information for music makers, community groups and organisations involved with projects. Their forward plan includes the development of a mentoring scheme in a support network for musicians. They are also working in partnership with MusicLeader in the Humber region.

HumberSound is a regional resource run by regional community musicians and art workers to develop multi-arts partnerships. The above will lead to the creation of opportunities for the people of the Humber region to participate in music making activities.

HumberSound can be contacted via email: humbersound@yahoo.co.uk
