Music4U is one of 22 Youth Music Action Zones running throughout the country. It was set up in the Humber Region in September 2001 and since this time more than 22,000 young people up to the age of 18 have taken part in a wide range of music related activities, gained in confidence and broadened their musical understanding.
Young people in the region have had the opportunity to work with community musicians who have been trained on Music4U’s Community Music For Practitioners Course representing a wide range of musical styles and cultures and have had lots of fun along the way.
Music4U has a new programme of activities running until April 2009 in the Humber Region and there are lots of opportunities for young people to get involved.
Music4U has five core objectives that are as follows:
Developing music making with early years
Encouraging young people to continue to make music during the transition from primary to secondary education
Bringing musical opportunities to young people at risk, especially at risk of offending or in detention
Bringing musical opportunities to young people in communities with high levels of poverty, particularly those living in geographical isolated rural and urban estate communities
Giving young people with special needs opportunities to participate in music making
Provide CPD opportunities for local musicians in order to grow the local skills base, establish and promote best practice and develop a network of providers and opportunities.
